All set for local bodies elections in Punjab


Punjab and Sindh are all set for the first phase of the Local Bodies elections in 12 districts of Punjab and 8 districts of Sindh tomorrow (Saturday).

Public holiday has been announced in the concerned districts of Punjab, the district administration announced after the directions of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).


The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has also completed arrangements for the first phase of LB polls and ballot papers have been printed and handed over to the provincial authorities.

The ECP has directed the voters to bring their original National Identity Card (CNIC); without original card no one will be able to cast his/her vote in LB polls. Also the time of polling has also extended from 9 hours to 10 hours.

The time for candidates to campaign ended at midnight, and tomorrow�s vote will decide if the candidates were successful in securing the voters confidence, whether the community-vote system will prevail or if the party the candidate is aligned with will do the trick.

A large number of independent candidates are also contesting in the local government elections. Voting will commence at 7:30AM and will end at 5:30PM.

The distribution of election material began on Friday morning.

The number of registered voters in Lahore are 4,305,880, Faisalabad 3,944,545, Gujrat 1,726,760, Kasur 1,614,042, Okara 1,507,246, Vehari 1,430,692, Bahawalnagar 1,387,865, Chakwal 1,009,947, Pakpattan 898,144, Lodhran 817,445, Bhakar 765,171 and Nankana Sahib 676,587.

As many as 4,500 candidates will appear for chairman/vice chairman of District Councils whereas a total of 19,213 will contest for General Members of District Council's Union Councils and 5531 candidates will be in the field for General Members of Municipal Committee's Wards.

For Lahore, 3,500 polling stations have been set up and the designated election officials are being handed over material for their respective polling stations, including ballot boxes, lists and ballots. The material is being delivered under the watchful eye of the Punjab police.

NA-122: Imran urges voters to defeat rigging by casting votes



ISLAMABAD: � Voters have to come out and defeat rigging in NA-122 Lahore constituency�, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan said.
PTI Chairman Imran Khan, in his tweet ahead of the NA-122 Lahore by-election,  has urged the voters to defeat rigging by coming out of their homes and casting their votes.



He added that the elections are important for free and fair elections in the future.

LAHORE: A day before the by-election in the all important NA-122 constituency, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Saturday wrote a letter to the chief election commissioner, charging PML N alongwith Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif of being involved in violation of poll laws.


The letter was sent by PTI�s central secretary of information Naeemul Haque, in which he expressed reservations over what he argued violation of election code of conduct by the ruling PML-N.
It was said that the prime minister and the chief minister were also involved in the charged violations.
The PTI urged the head of Pakistan�s electoral body to take stern action against those involved in charged violation of code of conduct and supervise the electoral process in the NA-122 by-poll on Sunday.

It is pertinent to mention here that the party has been vocal about its reservations over ECP�s Punjab member Riaz Kiani.
