Nigeria: Ahmadiyya Elders Call for End to Strikes in Educational Sector


The group urged the federal government to assist states and local governments in the payment of workers� salaries, prompt payment of retirees and other emoluments.

The Elders group, Majlis Ansarullah has called on government and Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities (ASUU) to find lasting solution to strikes in the educational sector of the economy and save the sector from collapse.

In a communiqu� issued and signed by Engr. Abdul Waheed Adeoye, the Sadr (Head) and Dr Akinreti Qasim of the organisation�s editorial board, at the 42nd Annual National Ijtema (Conference) of the Majlis Ansarullah, Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama�at Elders Group in Nigeria, held at AL-Azhar International College, Zango � Daji, Lokoja, Kogi State, the group said the strike would have serious negative impact on the socio-economic development of Nigeria.

�The academic calendar is now unpredictable, quality of teaching and learning educational institutions have sunk to the low ebb, and graduates of these institutions are no longer employable, while brain drain has hit the higher institutions. These surely are negative commentaries on Nigeria�s educational sector�.
