ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has said that election campaign will come to an end 48 hours before the polling day.
The spokesman of Election Commission Khurshid Alam said the commission has set the midnight of 9th of this month as the deadline to halt all public meetings and political campaign.
In a statement, he said that candidates violating deadline will have to face music in terms of various penalties including their disqualification� fine up to 100 thousand rupees or withholding of their results by the Returning Officers. He said that it is the responsibility of the
political parties not to award tickets to such candidates who do not fulfill the criteria as described in the constitution.
The commission said that distribution of ballot papers to various districts has started under the supervision of ECP staff whereas Army troops are guarding the transportation of ballot papers.
